This layer consists of faceted grains accompanied by crusts on solar aspects (observed as radiation recrystallization crusts prior to burial). On shaded slopes the crust is not present and the grains are FCsf mixed with SH in places. South of Galena Pass, an upper elevation rain/drizzle/rime crust was deposited on 12/11; in places this crust faceted completely and is undetectable but it is likely preserved and buried at this interface where it was more robust. This layer may have been interrupted in many locations by the solstice wind-event that resculpted the snowpack.
