We observed numerous avalanches on the drive and skin to Tornak hut. We dug a snow pit near the hut down to 161 cm (HS 205 cm) got an ECTX result. This was a low angle slope that faced NE at 8,450'. When we pried with a shovel on the column we got the top 136 cm to slide on a weak layer that was at 27-25 cm. We observed no cracking and heard no whumpfing. We skied cautiously and stayed off of steep slopes.
