We were on a short mission to complete yearly maintenance at the Lower Titus weather station. We didn't observe any recent avalanches but left the field before the heat of the day. The sun was melting snow on steep southerly facing slopes, creating roller balls.
We had no clouds overhead, but the clouds were trapped on the east side of the Boulders and pushing over the mountain tops into the west side. The solar gain was strong and melting the surfaces of southerly facing slopes.
Steep south-facing slopes had roller balls coming down, but we observed no wet loose slides before we left the field around 1400 hr.
New snow was melting into supportable crusts on south-facing slopes. The north slopes at mid elevation had a melt freeze crust down 15-20 cm.
