Some soft cornice growth and windblown snow immediately beneath ridgelines from Monday's small storm, but no wind slabs observed. The snowpack did not get wet/unsupportable on upper elevation slopes or on most middle elevation slopes where I traveled. Sheltered SE aspects below 9000' were barely supportable by 3 PM. I suspect S-SW-W middle elevation slopes would have been ugly in the late afternoon as well. Skiers triggered an interesting slide down low in the NW bowl of Galena Peak.
Clear skies and cool temps. Rime and snow in trees did not melt in the shade above 9500' today.

Layer Depth/Date: 30-80cm (up to full depth in thin areas) Comments: I didn't observe lower elevations, and upper elevations stayed cool enough today. Middle elevation solar slopes were spooky/unsupportable enough that I didn't trust them. They were not nearly as wet as this past weekend, but they were moist-damp-wet and barely frozen. |
I was solo and traveled very conservatively. I avoided all large avalanche paths and stayed out of all but the very top of all avalanche paths (I kicked cornice and pushed on snow at the top of small paths where there was no/little snow above me).
