The past week's NW winds formed wind slabs, drifts, cornices, and wind effects (dunes/ripples/waves) on many exposed slopes on the southern 2/3 of the compass. I saw one recent, large (estimated 3-8 foot thick) slab avalanche in the Soldier Mtns. Given the unusually cold temperatures, any wind slabs teetering on the edge of failing could remain questionable for a couple of extra days.
